High Potential and Gifted Education
High potential and gifted Education (HPGE) allow students to show their strengths across four key domains. These domains often overlap and work together, meaning a child may show strengths in more than one area. Some children may learn quickly, think deeply, show outstanding creativity, lead with confidence, or excel physically in sport or performance. With the right support, these natural abilities can be nurtured and developed over time to help students flourish both academically and personally.
At our school, we work closely with families and use evidence-based teaching practices to recognise and nurture high potential and gifted students across all four domains. Through high-quality teaching, enrichment opportunities, mentoring and targeted support, we help students grow their strengths, stay challenged and develop confidence in their learning and wellbeing.
What are the four domains of potential?
- Creative: Imagination, originality and innovation in areas such as the arts, design, problem solving and digital media.
- Intellectual: Strong thinking, reasoning, memory, problem solving and rapid understanding of new ideas.
- Physical: Natural abilities in movement, coordination, strength, speed and endurance seen in sport, dance and performance.
- Social-emotional: Strengths in leadership, empathy, communication, self-management and working positively with others.
Our High Potential and Gifted Education Opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
We support HPGE students through targeted enrichment, extension and extra-curricular programs such as:
- debating and public speaking
- STEM tasks
- academic competitions
- critical-thinking projects
- additional sport and performance opportunities.
Our students have access to a wide range of statewide and NSW Department of Education programs that extend learning and enrich student potential across many areas.
We carefully select local, state and national competitions, ensembles, challenges and mentoring opportunities.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our experienced teachers are committed to recognising the unique strengths and abilities of each student. Through careful observation and ongoing assessment, they identify talents early and provide encouragement and support to help every child reach their full potential.
Tailored lessons
We believe that every student learns differently, so our teachers design lessons that are personalised and challenging. By adapting teaching strategies and offering extension activities, we ensure that students are engaged and motivated to grow academically and creatively.
Rich opportunities and activities
Mona Vale Public School offers a broad range of extracurricular activities, including the arts, sport, leadership programs, and academic competitions. These opportunities allow students to explore their passions, develop new skills, and build confidence in a variety of areas beyond the classroom.
Opening doors to wider experiences
As part of the NSW public education system, our school is connected to a wide network of programs and resources. This means our students have access to enriching experiences such as regional events, specialist workshops, and collaborative projects that enhance their learning and personal development.
